Moving programs to external HD

There are some programs on my computer that I seldom use and would like to keep on my external hard drive.

Do I uninstall them from the computer and then re-install on the external drive or is there some other way to do this?

I've had no problems transferring files across from one to the other but imagine these programs would need to be re-installed.

You cannot transfer a program from a computer to another computer or hard drive unless you have the set up file, then you can transfer this but you will have to install it again on the other computer or hard drive.

Thanks for the input. I suspected that I would need to install the programs to the external drive.
