  • SP question

Quick question - listed under the census is an option for '1881 (LDS)' - does that mean that the 1881 scottish census is on the familysearch site? I can't see it right off the bat; maybe I'm in the wrong section. It would be useful if I could narrow down my results on familysearch before using my credits.

No, it's not on there Margaret.

The 1881 images have only gone on to SP fairly recently.

      Gillian,

By their wording - it suggests that we have access to the 1881 images - but also the 1881 LDS transcripts. Maybe the LDS did the transcriptions for them, just didn't add them to their own site.

Sorry Margaret - I didn't make myself very clear.

Up until recently, the LDS transcript was the only 1881 census available on SP. It cost 1 credit to download the transcript. Recently, SP added the images.

I've not checked myself as I now use Ancestry if I only want the transcripts transcripts, but I believe it is still 1 credit to see the LDS version.

Do you have Ancestry uk, or is there anything I can help you with?

I think I've got it now Gillian.

Thanks for the offer - I have access at the library; just wanted to narrow down a few things before I used up my free SP credits.

Although...........if you're in the mood for a search and Ancestry has scottish deaths, let me know!!

Oh Margaret I only wish it did have them! But, sadly, it doesn't.

I splashed out some of my free credits on my first look at an OPR death today - what a disappointment, it was just a list of names!

Can I be cheeky and ask if you know if I can access the Ontario 1861 anywhere other than on the LDS pilot search site?

              Oh well............

There is another site that has some records, but unsure whether they are indexes or not. Will have to get back to you as the info is on my Win98 and it's been sproradic with its performances - that's why I'm on my son's computer!! I will PM you.
