  • Hot router

I lost my internet connection today and had to check all the leads etc to reconnect.

I noticed that the router, especially the base, is very warm. It's not something I usually have to touch so I just wondered if the heat is normal or a sign of a problem.

Is it on carpet? That would block any vents underneath and cause abnormal heating.

All electrical products do heat up when in use though, so it should be ok - unless as above.

Thanks Tracy. It stands on top of my external DVD drive, so from what you say, it should be ok then.

Just noticed you only have 28 days to go! How exciting!

If you're worried about it, turn it off if you go out for an extended period.

        28 days, yes - it's scary lol

Yes, I think that's probably a good idea. A simple matter of moving 3 dozen files so I can reach the switch!

Doesn't seem any time at all since we were all counting the days last time - I expect it seems longer to you though lol

Our router gets quite warm too - it's perfectly normal. Nothing to be concerned about.

I only just got a new one today and noticed its warm for the first time. It did come with a little stand (legs) may be I should put those on it so its upright and has air round it rather than sitting on a shelf.

It is important that a router has a free flow of air around its air vents
so if these are on the base, you must not have it flat on the shelf

Trevor - I think I might have to make little legs for mine then. It only has little black rubber pads at the mo and is almost too hot to touch comfortably by the end of the day.
