  • Rosiers, Gibbs, Butlers from Hungerford Berkshire England

    Hi
I am stuck on my Grandmother's mother's side of the family and I was hoping someone could help me on here.
Ann Butler was my great great Grandmother she was born in Hungerford in 1848. Her dad was Moses Butler born in 1837. I don't know who her mother was so if someone could help me out on that I would be grateful.
She married a George Rosier in 1869 in Hungerford, he was born in 1849 and lived till 1887. I don't who his parents are either, so again any help would be appreciated.
She had ten children, they all have the surname Rosier but 3 of them including my great grandmother Rose Rosier, were born after George Died. We think these Children were actually the Children of Ann Butler and Charles Gibbs, her lodger, to my knowledge they never married. I don't know anything about Charles Gibbs except that he was born in 1849 Hungerford. I really would love to know more about him.
If anyone could help me with finding out about this side of my family I would be grateful!
    Thanks
    Carrie-Anne

I presume this is Ann with some of the children in 1881

        Ann Rosier 30
        Elizabeth Rosier 12
        Harriett Jane Rosier 6
        Charles James Rosier 4
        George Henry Rosier 2
        Florence Rosier
        Charles James Gibbs 30

        RG11; Piece: 1275; Folio: 34; Page: 6;
        1881 census - Ancestry

... and maybe this is George in 1881 living next door to another Rosier family (probably related in some way!)

        Joseph Rosier 47
        Mary Ann Rosier 48
        Elizabeth Rosier 21
        Frederick Rosier 19
        William Rosier 18
        Leonard Rosier 16
        Rosina Rosier 13

George Rosier 30 - occ Mail Contractor (Coach Proprietor) - listed as Head of household - married

I cannot see a George Rosier born c1849 Hungerford in the 1851 or 1861 census.

          There are two
George Rosier born c 1841 Hungerford - parents Thomas and Ann
George Rosier born c 1844 Hungerford - parents Charles and Phoebe.

I think you need to get the marriage certificate of George and Ann so that you can be sure you are following the right one.

Do you have the death certificate for George?
I presume you are referring to this one
            Deaths Sep 1887
            Rosier George age 36
            Hungerford 2c 148

            - this would give an estimated year of birth as 1851.

That might correspond to a George Rosier who is shown in the 1851 census as being born in Ramsbury, Wiltshire (which comes under the registration district of Hungerford) - parents George and Britannia.

I think you need to get some certificates to sort out the right line, and the first one I would suggest is the marriage of Ann Butler and George Rosier

              1869 March
              Ann Butler / George Rosier
