  • Another family skeleton.

    I received my parents marriage certificate today.

    They were married in 1953....and it said Mum was divorced....no secret there.

    Dad's says.......never validly married.

    What does that mean.

    There was always a family rumour that he had been married in America on his way out from Scotland.....but how would I ever know if it was true?

    I don't even know when he came out to Tasmania....how would I find that out?

    Both Mum and Dad have been gone for 30 years so there is no-one left to ask.

    You could try the NAA site - they have arrivals, after WW1 do a name search. Be very general, just with surname, unless its really common.
    What about departures from the UK - before or after WW2, do you think ? did he serve ? in Australia or UK ?
