  • Help with Photo Bucket please

I am trying to get a photo on here for help with identification. I went to the 'how to guides' and following wonderful instructions managed to register with photo busket and upload the said photo from my computer file.

I tried to add my photo to my query on here after copying and pasting the IMG tag from photo bucket. But when I try to submit, it says the tag is too long as only 25 characters are allowed.
Is photo bucket the only option for posting photos on here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Chris, have you tried deleting the 2 end brackets from the tag, this would make it shorter and the image will still show up........that's what I do?

          still having no luck

The photo I am trying to put on here requesting help with identifiction I received as an attachment in an email that a fellow researcher had scanned and sent. I saved the jpg in my photo file, could this be a reason why I can't get it on this forum. I am going round in circles and feel glued to this computer chair!! Help.

          Thanks for any replies
          Chris

            Start from the beginning

            (1) Re-name the photo using fewer words
(just call it Pic 1 or something like that)

            (2) Upload it to Photobucket as a jpg

            (3) Then try to copy and paste again

You need to copy the image Code which is the bottom one of the four. Then just paste it into your post.

                    Still no luck

Hi all thanks for all the replies. I have tried what you said and it still says too many characters. When I look at the actual IMG code it is putting all my file extensions I think that's what you call the path of how I saved it ie Documents/family history/ Fletcher/photos, perhaps not all so I'll try again.

A correct and valid IMG code would look like this...

Chris, did you go into your folder and click on the individual image to upload to photobucket? If so, it should just upload that image. Have you tried renaming the actual file/folder?

Right I have renamed it with a very short name and will go to my original query and try to put the photo on. I will call the query John Fletcher and if it does'nt work I will let you know then I'll have to leave it there as I need food!

I Have just tried it again - my head hurts and it says the IMG code is still too long. I have copied that IMG code and here it is:
                            [IMG]http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv268/cvearncombe/jf.jpg[/IMG

My file is called jf and I believe all the other gubbins is from photo bucket identifying my actual album on their site. Don't know what to do next.

                                - just add a square bracket at the end of the code you have in post #14 - you probably missed it when you copied and pasted from Photobucket

                                [IMG]http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv268/cvearncombe/jf.jpg[/IMG]

                                ... and it will work!

by the way - you donĀ“t need a red bracket - I just coloured it so you could see it clearly!

I sincerely thank you all for your input, I know I'm a little slow in carrying out your suggestions - you have all probably lost the will to live as I have. Here is my original quey minus photo. I don't understand why I can't show the photo though I'm sure I have followed all the advice. It must be one of those pesky gremlins!

This is an unidentified photo, so any help in dating it would be very much appreciated. Also is there someone with military knowledge that could throw some light on the medals please?

The most possible contender for the sitter is John Fletcher born 1796 who was a colour Sergeant in the 19th Regiment of Foot and was medically discharged to pension in 1836 after serving 21 years. He served for 7 years in the West Indies and also was in the Battle of Waterloo.

I only add this information in case it helps to identify any of the medals.

                                      With grateful thanks
