          Brilliant.........but I don't think anyone's going to thank me after this....:o

I have one major brick wall which has had me stumped for the past 3 years, so here goes..............this is all the info I have so far..........

          My Chandler family from Liverpool......

I have been looking for the two brothers of my great grandmother Martha Chandler. Their details are.....

          1) JONATHAN CHANDLER Born 1835 Liverpool.
          Baptised at St Peter Liverpool
          Occupation: Block maker/Mariner
Married: ELIZABETH MERCER Born abt 1837 Liverpool. In 1858
Marriage took place at St Peter's church.

          2) CHARLES CHANDLER Born 1837 Liverpool.
Baptised at St Peter Liverpool on 14/5/1837
          Occupation: Block maker/Mariner
Married: JANE DAVIES Born abt 1839 Liverpool (According to their
marriage cert, Jane's father was a Master Mariner)
Marriage took place at St Philip Liverpool. in 1860.

1841 HO107/566/16 Page 11 Sub reg: St Thomas Liverpool

1851 Residing 50 Jordan street Liverpool Off St James street.
          Toxteth Park.

NO trace of either brother and their wives and/or any off-spring after 1851 census.

Don't know where to look next as I've no experience with searching seafaring records etc......So am unsure as to whether they may have gone to or been lost at sea..........if so, still can't trace their wives.

Did they emigrate? Don't know.......have searched a few sites but nothing to date.

I'm not at all hopeful but I wish you all good luck.:o

            Hi Jen

The goldrushes of California and Australia (Victoria, NSW) and New Zealand, also Canada I think, took place in the 1850s so there's a chance they got gold fever and immigrated there (or elsewhere).

Will have a look later today

Thanks Diane. appreciate any help I can get.

I did find an Elizabeth Chandler on the 1861 census working as a servant housemaid at 24Abercromby square Liverpool aged 26 but, the age is about 5 yrs out..........if it is/was my Elizabeth (Jonathan's wife), he may well have been at sea somewhere.

Still no sign of Charles & Jane though.

A quick check through the NSW, Vic and Qld BDMs show no deaths for Jonathon Chandler to 1930. A few Charles and Jane deaths - can you tell me their parents names ?

After 1873, some children born to a couple Charles and Jane Chandler, in Paddington (Sydney) and Tamworth. One Charles and Mrs Chandler arrived 1868 per ship YouYangs
as Steerage passengers, no further details available.

Not listed in the assisted migrants for NSW or Vic.

                  Hi Diane,

Jonathan & Charles' parents were William Chandler born abt 1805 Leiston Suffolk & Martha King born abt 1815 Preston Lancashire. They married at st Martin in the Fields in Liverpool and raised their family there until Martha died aged 36 in 1851.

I will go and root out their wedding certs......to find the brides father's names.

                      Jen,
For William Davies you might find details of his ships and where they went from the Lloyds Registers if you haven't tried that which may give a clue as to where your people might have gone.
I had a look on FMP and see there are several Chandlers who applied for passports 1858 -1860, none for Jonathan but one or two John and and Elizabeth. I have saved the pages for you so if you give me your email address in a PM then I can send them to you for future reference.

                        Jen,

None of the Charles, Elizabeths or Janes had their fathers listed as William. A couple of "unknown"s listed as father, but the dates are fairly early to be yours. Looks like they did not come to NSW.

If Jane's father was a Master Mariner, perhaps you could look at where his ships sailed to, perhaps they went on a voyage with him and stayed there.

oohh - the Ocean Chief out of Liverpool, master William Davies, arr Sydney 15 April 1863. There's a couple of other Masters called William Davies, but they were smaller coastal ships travelling between Melbourne and Sydney.

There are lots of entries for unassisted passengers with just Mr and Mrs Chandler and no christian names, so I have been looking in the death indexes and births (for children) but cannot see anyone likely.

Diane, I have considered that they may have gone on a voyage with Janes father, but I am hopless at trying to find the correct records to search in this case but, with the help I'm getting it is helping me along the right path, so thankyou Diane.

Yes thanks Julie, they had 3 sisters in all but the 2 boys were the older siblings. I have discovered what happened to their sisters, the 2nd youngest was my great grandmother.
It's only the boys I can't pin down.
