  • 1873 landowners database online (England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales)

Familyrelatives has put a new database of landowners online:

Search the Return of Owners Land in England 1873 on Familyrelatives.com
Search the Return of Owners Land in Wales 1873 on Familyrelatives.com
Search the Return of Owners Land in Scotland 1873 on Familyrelatives.com
Search the Return of Owners Land in Ireland 1876 on Familyrelatives.com

    From their newsletter:

These fascinating Returns provide the name and address of every Owner and their holding in acres, rods and poles, with the estimated yearly rental valuation of all holdings over 1 acre. Interestingly lease holders at the commencement of their term were considered as owners also, however those at the end of their term were not so considered.

As a result over 320,000 landowners of one acre or more can be searched online representing 1% of the entire population of the United Kingdom. The number of owners with less than one acre was nearly 850,000. London the "Great Metropolis" was excluded from the Returns as was waste land if it yielded no profit.

      Yes, isn't it irritating.

I've found quite a few of mine in the free search - I might buy a few credits this evening and see what the full records are like.

Just been having a look and it says to view the Land Records yoy have to subscribe at £30 and you can't use credits on pay as you go.

I have found one that could possibly be mine but will have to leave it until it changes. Perhaps when they aren't new additions they will go to pay to view.

Oh, that's a pain - really? Not sure I'll bother, then.

You're right, I'd missed the small print.

This page shows what you can use pay-per-view credits for, and it doesn't include the new land records:

Some of us have an annual subscription (mentioning no names). But I can't find someone I expected to be there.

I have spotted several of mine (Dipple ) but cannot afford to look any further :(
Just trying to decide which sub to renew FMP or Ancestry.

Pity the copyright laws say personal use only
Some of us could have subscription to Ancestry others to FMP etc then all do look ups ;)
