ooops, that should read Parish, not Paris!

I've had a bit of a breakthru in the earlier branches of my tree by luck more than skill, but have now come accross several records in the Old Parish Registers where people (usually one parent on a birth or marriage) names are given with an alias, but I can't spot a consistancy in what it actually means (maiden name or mother maiden name or previous married name), is there one? or does it vary and am left to make whatever I can of it?

Will try and find some examples to demonstrate.

I would read "alias" to mean maiden name (for a marriage) or mother's maiden name (for a baptism).
