  • Can someone answer a question about wills please

In 1915, could a person who was an executor of a will also be a beneficiery.

    Thanks

I don't think the rules have changed that much so I'll give you the up to date answer.

I was both executor and sole beneficary of my father's will (2 years ago). The only thing I could not do as a beneficiary was to witness the will.

someone else may know if the situation was differenrt in 1915.

I don't the rules have changed at all. A witness cannot be a beneficiary but an executor can. That's how unscrupulous family solicitors were (and still are!) able to get their hands on the loot.

In 1826 my 4xggrandmother was beneficiary and one of the executors of her husband's Will.

A solicitor cannot be a beneficiary and an executor. There is well established case law on the point.

They can for a family member but should not draft the will themselves if the will cuts any other family member out.
