    good morning....could someone please explain exactly what the CREED REGISTER was please...and was this only used for adoptions??...I know I could google but I`m hoping someone may have some experience with this register....my query is ..I have a Lucy Price b 1882..I have found her birth reg on cheshbmd.org.uk....supposedly adopted 1883/4/5...I need a little help please....allan

    It's a register kept by workhouse masters to record info about inmates including their religious creed. As adoption wasn't a legal formality until the 1920s I guess the creed register might record who a child was boarded out to, which was a sort of forerunner to adoption.
