  • Could someone help me with Arthur Wilson's brothers and sisters

Arthur Wilson was my great grandfather and I am having difficulties with finding out what happened to his siblings. Richard for example was born about 1855, I have found him in the 1861 and 1871 censuses and then he has vanished into thin air. I have searched for a death or wondered if he got married or even went abroad. Likewise, what became of Maria, did she marry between 1871 and 1881, if so who? MTIA

Lorraine you don't say what area they were born/living. Do you know their parents names?

Sorry the family were living in the Hull area, the parents were Thomas Wilson and Charlotte Wilson (nee Hoy or maybe Hay/Hey or even Key).

From the 1851 census I have

      Thomas Wilson 31 (born 1820)
      Charlotte Wilson 27 (born 1825)
Ann 9, Thomas 7, Charlotte 5, William 4, Maria 3, Mary 4 months and Henry Wilson who is 26 (presumably Thomas' brother). HO107/2320

From the 1861 census we have:

Sarah Ann Wilson 18, Thomas 17, Charlotte 15, William Hy Wilson 14, Maria 12, with the additions of Richard 6 and George 4. RG9, 3594

      In 1871 we have

Thomas 51, Charlotte 48, Maria 22, Richard 16. George 14 and the arrival of 7 year old Arthur RG10/4792

I am interested in Ann becoming Sarah Ann, presumably she married. I know for definite what became of Arthur, but what became of the other children? We think from previous threads Thomas died Jun 1874 53 Hull 9d 154.

        Hi Lorraine

Do you know if your Richard was just plain Richard Wilson or if he was the Richard Henry F W Wilson?

I think this could be your Maria Wilson. The marriage certificate would prove it

I don't but if its the Richard I am thinking of, could he have made it to the rank of Major in 10 years?

What clinches the marriage of Maria to me and makes it seem more likely, is that Arthur named one of his twin sons Cyrus Harold. This Cyrus died the year before Arthur's son was born, therefore this shows the family were very close.

Ooooo good! I love it when a plan comes together :D

I've got to say I'm more inclined to think he is the plain Richard Wilson

I looked up the birth of Sarah Ann Wilson (born 1842 in Hull) and for a couple of the entries when you look at the image the name does not correspond with what you have been led to believe. Its very confusing and frustrating to order a certificate and find its not as expected.
