  • Change of county boundaries...

    ... if I wanted to look up some parish registers that when registered were Berkshire (over 100 hundred yrs ago) but are now oxfordshire, which county records office should I go to?

      You can find out which registers are with the Berkshire records office here:

        If you're after any of the parishes around Wallingford that moved to Oxfordshire in the 1970s, I think all of them are at Berks RO. I have a feeling they may well be at Oxfordshire too though.

          I always look on FreeBMD


          FreeBMD - Search



          Put in a common surname, a date and a District or County.
          When the list of names comes up click on the District for info.

          This is what it says about Wallingford

          Wallingford Registration District

            I know Hampshire record office in Winchester has some information on parts of Berkshire, so I would imagine that other 'boundary' counties will too.
