  • Difficulty searching Ancestry

    Am I a bit thick??
Or doing something wrong, I'm trying to get index number to order a death cert for grandfather who died in 1967 using Ancestry. I put in his name, where he died and the year and I got completely different results, wrong years and totally wrong name and not even the right county

    Help please

After reading on here I am using the older search now on Ancestry and it so much better at giving relevant results!

Would you like to give the details as you know them so someone can take a look?

hi yvonne, your probably selecting the quarter. you need to actually view the image to get the page full of death registrations.

example, you searcg for john smith died 1970. it will come up with the page of the quarter you need, but it will have the name of the first and last person on the page. just view the image and you will be right.

black widow, ancestry probably thinks you a logged on to it on a different version. you might already be logged on under ancestry.com/.uk/au/fr, etc

                    Thanks for your replies

I've figured out where I was going wrong. I had clicked on Search at the top of the page which brings up a form to fill in which then searches BMD, censuses etc. I should click on the list on the right of the home page it is more direct.

The general search can sometimes be useful when you're not doing a specific search (well it would, wouldn't it??)
