I was just playing around with search terms on Documents Online, when I realised that I'd seen something potentially interesting...

    If you're on this page:
The National Archives | DocumentsOnline | Advanced Search
and you un-tick the All Categories button, then go down, past Family History, to Other Records - tick the box for Society & Law. Then put what I've put as a header into the Key Words box, and see what you get...

This was my first Hit - out of 83:
Metropolitan Police: Records of Police Pensioners: Walter Clarke , Thomas Leavey , Thomas Short , William Dixon , Benjamin Beeson , William Farquhar 1892-1893
    Christine
Researching: BENNETT (Leics/Birmingham-ish) - incl. Leonard BENNETT in Detroit & Florida ; WARR/WOR, STRATFORD & GARDNER/GARNAR (Oxon); CHRISTMAS, RUSSELL, PAFOOT/PAFFORD (Hants); BIGWOOD, HAYLER/HAILOR (Sussex); LANCASTER (Beds, Berks, Wilts) - plus - COCKS (Spitalfields, Liverpool, Plymouth); RUSE/ROWSE, TREMEER, WADLIN(G)/WADLETON (Devonport, E Cornwall); GOULD (S Devon); CHAPMAN, HALL/HOLE, HORN (N Devon); BARRON, SCANTLEBURY (Mevagissey)...

That is very interesting, I can't get anything for my lot who were in the Royal Irish Constabulary, but I'm certainly going to have a play...

Royal Irish Constabulary Records are at TNA Kew but not online. I have successfully researched an RIC ancestor through TNA. Sounds as though you will have to visit.
