she died in bed on the isle of wight and the only death I can find which is quite possible her is this one
I am only looking at years between 1940 and 1947 have looked in every quarter and year and this is the only one I can find
I did think it odd myself but one of the ladies who found her dead confirms it was about 1946 ???

                Val,
Have you tried the Isle of Wight Family History site - you can search death registrations very easily (just in case you missed something when you searched through Ancestry)

if you click on the reference number at the end it will bring up a form that has all the details on it. You just have to print it out and fill in the other bits.

                                    Val

The GRO does sometimes miss events - either doesn't index them, indexes them wrongly, or just never receives the information from the local Register Office.

I have six certificates in my possession, none of which made it to the GRO - well, one did, but was so badly mis-indexed, I didn't find it until I received the one from the local Register Office.

The other five just never made it at all.

Yes it is possible, it all depends on who registered the death. If the person was not present and not a relative and not living in the area they would go to their local registrars office and make a declaration as oppossed to a registration.
Just an extra in this day and age probate at this time (May 09) is handled by an office in Nottingham.
Back in 1974 a lady who died in London probate was granted from Ipswich.
