  • Which Reg Dist for Lyme Dorset?

Can anybody tell me please where a birth for Lyme, Dorset would be registered c. 1887.

I'm looking for Robert Weeks born c.1887 Lyme, Dorset.

Unfortunately he's the only child of 11 born in Dorset. All the rest were born in Wells, Bristol and Corston, Nr Bath.

I've found one that could be him, registered in Sherborne, Dorset. but not sure if Lyme would come under Sherborne District.

    Name: Robert Weeks
    Year of Registration: 1887
    Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
    District: Sherborne
    County: Dorset, Somerset
    Volume: 5a
    Page: 354

Lyme Regis was in Axminster district until 1937, then it was in Bridport.

I've just had a look at the census. He's not born in Lyme, he's born in Ryme!

That's Ryme Intrinseca which is in Sherborne District! lolol

You're right Merry it does say Ryme! Never heard of Ryme so I assumed it was an error!
You live and learn. Pmsl!! What a plonker!
Well that confirms that's Roberts birth reg anyway.

Where did you find out the info? I had the details of where to check out districts for places, on my old computer, but I don't remember where the heck I found it!

Went on holiday to Dorset years ago and loved the names. Ryme Intrinseca was my fave.
