I have a death cert for a Robert Aitkin died 1837 ,I am puzzled as the informant is a Nanny Armstrong wife , if she was his wife why would she have a differant surname ,any suggestions.sorted thanks

Maiden name? It was mostly a Scottish habit for wives to be known by either or both.
