  • Can I un-install Picasa?

I have Picasa 3 and seem to have doubled up almost every photo I have. I have several hundred photos on "My Pictures", but they all install themselves in Picasa as well, and when I want to edit any of them, they seem to multiply.

If I un-install Picasa................I will keep all my photos in "My Pictures" won't I?????????????

And...........I love Picasa's red eye removal tool, but I'd like a program that I can edit photos with the photos having to stay in the program.

I don't understand how Picassa has multiplied all your photos. I use Picassa 3 and I only have my photos in My Photos Folder, they don't duplicate themselves!!!! I can edit them several times and they stay in that folder.

Wendy.........................what am I (and Babs) doing wrong?????

As soon as I installed it all my pictures were automatically added to it. they also stayed in My Pictures.

Then whenever I edit one of them it is added as another picture.
If I right click on the picture and click "delete" it just copies it so I then have another copy.

I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I've looked everywhere.

Libby, Kodak Easy Share has a good red eye removal tool.

I ended up with multiple copies just yesterday in My Documents/Photos, when I was trying to delete some...the whole thing just went crazy. I ended up by moving the files I wanted to keep to the desktop, then 'selected all' in the folder I was trying to tidy and hit the delete key. They disappeared then, thankfully...and I emptied the recycle bin so they wouldn't come back. And I have no idea why that happened either

                  Thanks Bev......I'll have a look.

One day I'll go through all these photos but I've culled the ones that are out of focus, headless, etc, and I've still got about 700. Odd how they multiply....almost like wire coathangers.......lol

Still not sure if I can uninstall Picassa without losing all the photos in My Pictures.

I do most of my photo editing in Paint Shop Pro 7, but if there's a red eye problem, I open it in the Kodak program first and deal with that, then continue on in Paint Shop.

i know what you mean about having hundreds of pics.....and that's without weird things happening in the software

                      Me too!

In fact I don't open my Picasa now because I don't want to add to the duplicate, triplicate, quadruplicate copies that it creates.
Some I've tried to manage by using the Hide option but the wretched things still seem to multiply and pop up in strange places.

Maybe it's time to summon up courage and take drastic action _ but I'm scared of losing what's in My Pictures!!!

Why not save what is in 'My Pictures' to a CD, delete what you need and then reinstall the ones you want to keep?

                          Bev, good thinking!

I have some already saved on CD and memory stick - especially all the family & FH stuff.
It would help I suppose if I was better organised with folders but they too have a habit of 'taking independent action' when I'm not concentrating.

Kate, I had to take a lot of photos off my computer last year to free up the memory. I made a lot of CDs....especially the travel stuff....made some nice printed CD labels for them, with pics, so I could tell what was what..and now I have a good set of CDs I can use easily.

Didn't take long for the space on the puter to start filling up again though :o

I am amazed because that's exactly what happened to me.

I went through and deleted all the extras...took me hours...but now find that although the folders are still in my pictures they are empty.

                              A right pain

I don't know what is happening on your PC's but on mine when I use Picassa 3, it looks through my PC and finds all the images that are on there and places a thumbnail image into Picassa. It does NOT loaded the actual images!!!!

I have just looked at Picassa as I haven't used it for a couple of weeks, and there are several thumbnails of images that I have either moved or deleted. If I right click on the thumbnail I can ask Picassa to find the image on the hard drive, BUT as they had been deleted it couldn't find them!! The thumbnail image however is still there until I tell Picassa to remove it or update the thumbnails.

Picasa DOES NOT make copies of any images that it indexes. It just refers to the original files, in their original locations.

The software itself tells you this when you first run it...

It means that the photos will remain in the folder you put them in originally.

Have you actually looked in the folder to see the photos, or are you looking at the folder within Picassa?

Well I have no idea what I'm doing wrong...............

I just checked in My Pictures and there are more photos in Picasa than in My Pictures.

I just put some photos I didn't want into a new folder in My Pictures, then went to Picasa and the folder was there so I deleted it in Picassa. The folder is still in My Pictures but I can't see the photos. All there is in the folder is an icon called Picasa. I can then delete the folder in My Pictures.

So I guess if I uninstall Picasa, I lose the things I have in My Pictures.

The duplication happens when I try to delete a single image from Picasa. If I right click on the image in Picasa and click "delete", it simply duplicates it in that folder.
It's as if the "delete" function is a shortcut to copy and paste.

Obviously I've messed it up somewhere, but I honestly can't work out where.
