  • JavaScript, Active X and Mozilla Firefox

This is a continuation of my printing problems for the census records on Ancestry, so please bear with my ignorance!

I have received a reply from them which has me even more confused. They mention all of three three programmes named above, but I only have Mozilla Firefox installed. Do I need all three?

If you're using Firefox, go to to Tools - Options - Content to see if Javascript's activated (it should be ticked).

I think ActiveX is only used with Internet Explorer, but I'm not sure.

Ahhh! The problem has been solved after lengthy discussions with a technical advisor at Ancestry.

I upgraded to IE8 which does not work properly with Ancestry but I'm fine if I access it through Firefox and I can print - what a relief.

Explorer 8 may have disabled in its security default settings use of java script or Active X

These are 'scripting' programs that by the way that they work, will automatically make slight changes to the browser window, so for security IE may have disabled them.

Mary has given you the correct method of finding these settings
