  • AVG*Free version 8.0

I am unable to find this AVG Anti Virus version Free anymore. They tell us on all the sites that it is 'free' but you have to pay for the support whether you like it or not.

    Is this correct?

I don't think it has ever had free support. If you had problems you would go to the freeforum.

You can download the latest version of AVG Free Edition from here...

AVG Free - Download installation files & documentation

Official Support has never been given for AVG Free Edition, however you can get help from the user forum, that Wendy has posted above.

        Wendy and Dave,

Thank you for your replies. Wendy either I have not written my thread clearly but what I meant was that I could not find a free download. I had to buy the Antivirus and the information about it was that the Antivirus was free but you could not have it without paying for support. In other words there is no such thing as a 'free lunch'.
Dave, thank you for the link, I will take a look at it now.

Update Dave, there are two items listed do I need them both? Also are they better than Avast? I always used to use AVG but when I went over to Vista it just would not download but time has moved on since I last tried it.

You only need the first file...

                Code:
                [URL="http://www.avg.com/filedir/inst/avg_free_stf_en_85_325a1500.exe"]AVG Free 8.5 for Windows[/URL]
                (avg_free_stf_en_85_325a1500.exe) 8.5.325 April 28, 2009 61.5 MB
I've not used Avast so cannot comment on that.

AVG has always worked on my Vista test installation. Had no problems.

                  Dave,

Thank you for the link I installed it in seconds (note seconds and that does not happen often on PC's).

Just thought I would mention that I used to use AVG (think it was version 5) but found it too difficult to configure. Uninstalled and installed Avast Free which I have found excellent. Although some people have commented that it slows yourcomputer down on bootup. I can live with that especially as it updates itself as soon a you go online.

                      Best of luck.
