Has anyone researched a shop? Have found these entries

Wright's Directory of Leicester & Fifteen Miles Round, 1883-84
    Wigley, James B. 4 Eastgates
    Wright's Directory of Leicestershire, 1887-1888
Wigley, James B. 4 East gates and Goose gate, Nottingham
Bennett's Business Directory of Leicestershire & Rutland, 1888
    Wigley, B. 4 East gates

and googled but nothing specific. Wondered what would be the best way forward. Wigley seems to have taken my Wards under his wing after marrying into the family and taken them into the tailoring business. His full name was James Bennett Wigley and then the Ward family use Bennett and Wigley in their childrens names.

They didn't have any living children that I can find,

Looking for Ward, Moore, Hunt, Warren...and who was Gertrude Wills

I was surprised to find a shop in Nottingham as well as Leicester and wondered what I could find out further, people research houses and wondered if they had done the same with a shop

I had a look at the 1877 Morris Directory of Nottingham:

Bennett Wigley, wholesale and retail clothier, 40 and 42 Goosegate, and 4 East gates, Leicester.

The Red Hot buffet is at 38-46 Goosegate, with 38 being on the right, so numbers 40 and 42 would be the bit just to the right of the middle if you see what I mean (hope this link works!):

Thanks Kiterunner, can't believe how many times I have been up and down that road without knowing.

Hi have you tried the website Old photos, maps, local books, prints and gifts - Francis Frith put in the town there might be a photo of the street and the shop might be on it. I did that with one of my families and there is a picture of there shop in Ellesmere Shropshire,

                    Good luck

Hi again Elaine - no my direct line is Birds, two generations in a row ( probably win the award for Most Inbred) and they're both Appleby, Westmorland.

Elaine - am just wondering about the wills of other people, too - thinking laterally. Also have you checked A2A? (If it's still up?) They seem to have a lot of old deeds/mortgages/leases etc deposited by local solicitors' firms.
