  • Ancestry is very wierd

    Hi,
I am having a wee search on Ancestry census - 1901, the 1891
I keyed in Burnett - no matches, strange!!
Now as a test I have keyed in "Smith, 1891 census for Scotland" - no hits.
Could some kind person please repeat the search for me so i know I am not going mad!!!

    many thanks

England and Wales are working, but Scotland is not.

Thanks Tracy - I thought I had gone quite mad not finding any Smiths in Scotland!
I hope it gets back to normal soon.
          Thanks again - sanity restored!!!!!

The only reliable way to get sensible results for a Scottish census on Ancestry is to specifically select "1851 Scotland" or whichever one you want. If you are less selective the search brings up complete rubbish.

Uncle John - I always search in a specific census year in Scotland on Ancestry and have no problems, but tonight all searches are turning up - no result.
I have just tested - 1851, Cameron (all of Scotland), - no results!

This happened to me once - English census - and I thought I had gone completely insane - NO HOLDENS in England and Wales!!!!

I think it is just politely telling you to go away, they are terribly busy!

Thanks OC - I kept spelling BURNETT different ways thinking I had suddenly forgotten the correct spelling but when I tried SMITH - I knew something was wrong.
But where is the wee boy that usually appears when they are busy - has he gone to bed???

Ever hopeful, I just thought I'd mention I have Burnet/Burnett/Birnets in Larbert and Falkirk Herky!

(And Ancestry is showing zero results for me in Scotland in 1891 tonight too!:()

                        Hi Gillian,
The Burnett is through marriage and was b Aberdour, c 1821, died Longside, Aberdeenshire.
                        Quite right to be hopeful!

EDIT - Ancestry still not working

Thanks Herky - I thought it was worth a shot

Ancestry's still not working for me today in Scotland either - it's maddening when it happens at a weekend, just when I have time for some proper searching!
