Norton vs AVG

My new laptop came with a free six week trial of Norton antivirus. I have never used Norton, only ever used AVG. Is it worth paying 40 odd quid to renew the Norton now it has expired or will I get just as good protection with the free AVG?.
Also if I decide to go with AVG do I need to uninstall the Norton even though the trial will have expired or will it cause problems by leaving it?

I personally would go with AVG I used it for years you do need to completely uninstall Norton first there is a norton removal tool site think its on here somewhere too see if I can find it
