  • Pur Man 1911

Have found my Mr Robinson in the 1911 census (and that's what he wrote!) and his occupation is Pur Man. I have googled and looked at old professions but haven't found what it is yet, has anyone any ideas?

Oh Val, I opened the reply box to say just that & decided against it, but that was my immediate thought. My Mum always had the man from the Pru come to collect her penny premiums.

Vivienne I thought of that because I'm sure that The Pru has been going for donkeys years, like the Provident. lol

I know it has Val, I still have the books my Mum took over from her Mum with the penny policies on her brothers.

                        Can't locate him in 1901
If he's the one on FreeBMD (marriage) then his first name was William :(

My cousin sent the transcription, not sure of him 1901, he looks more like a captain of a boat, more likely worked on a fishing trawler

Wonder if he was a "Pier man" - that would be a nice easy sort of job for a man with a fishing background!

I think the only way you will find out what it really says is to look at the actual image, Elaine.
