  • Frederick Rex 1891 census

Frederick Rex was born abt 1867/68 in Ebberston Pickering North Yorkshire.
I have him on all relevant census apart from the 1891, which I cannot find. I have tried all versions of Rex, as some of his family were found under Ris - Resk - Resk ect.
Frederick was not yet married in 1891, he married Hannah Longdale (or Langdale) in 1895.
We would be very grateful if anyone could find him so that our records are complete. Thanks in anticipation. Genious

There are approx 4500 Freds born 1867 +/- 2 from Yorkshire, in Yorkshire.

You only need to consider those without parents or spouse. Have you scanned that list in case the name is woefully mistranscribed?

I don't have a sub, and don't know the area, so cannot spot possible candidates.

This is what is in my records so far:

I am now wondering if Frederick married twice, the first wife being Ada who died in 1892, the second marriage to Hannah in 1895.
What do you all think? This is driving me crackers. Regards Genious

                            That was my theory
                            the missing 1891 being

                            Frederich Rex 24
                            Ada Rex 25
                            Maud Rex 10/12
                            RG12; Piece: 4011; Folio 14; Page 21;

more than coincedence they are in Pickering, I'd have though with more or less the right birthplace for Fred

Yes, thats what l think as well.

In 1891 he is with wife Ada and young daughter Maud. They then have Lily and then Ada dies.
He remarries to Hannah in 1895 and in 1901 his two daughters Maud and Lily are with their maternal grandparents (Wrack), and he is with his new wife Hannah, and their children. ,
You need to see the two marriage entries to be sure it is the same man. The second marriage should say he is a widower .

                                Frederick Rex

Our main line is the Robinson family - born in and around Ebberston.
An Elizabeth Jane Robinson married into the Rex family. These are the parents of Frederick Rex, the mystery man. I only started "playing" with the Rex family as I noticed that one of the children was named Mark Robinson Rex. I have found all relevant records for all known children apart from Frederick. One of those ancestors you wish you had left well alone.
As a last resort, I will get a marriage certificate BUT I came up with a better cunning plan.
We will be visiting Ebberston and surrounding villages sometime in the next two month and may find someone who is also researching the Rex family.
Although Pickering covers a large area, I have found that Ebberston - Ayton - Hutton Bushel and other villages also come under the Scarborough area as well as Pickering, so it gets very confusing, difficult for me even though I live in Yorkshire.
I will be sure to let you know the outcome, if I ever find proof. Thank you all for your help, I must admit I am leaning towards two marriages but as we all know, all sorts of things turn up when you are researching family history.
                                Regards genious

                                  Just a thought.

If you could find out where the marriages took place, and which record office covers that area, perhaps someone could look up the church records for you.

If it had been in Dudley district l would have looked it up on Monday for you :D

                                      Frederick Rex

As we are not certain who married who at this stage, there would be no point in guessing which church they were married in.
My husbands gran Jane Clark born abt 1880 West Ayton (birth registered in Scarborough) married Harry Robinson born abt 1881 Ebberston (birth registered in Pickering).
Family swore blind they were married in Ebberston Church as they "remembered Auntie Fanny saying she had gone to the wedding".
The marriage actually took place in the Primative Methodist Church Scarborough", I have the actual certificate.
Aunt Fanny died in 1900 so could not possibly have been at the wedding.
Some die hard family members still think the certificate is wrong, although it gives all the correct names and dates and fathers names etc.
I'm going off Frederick now, going to try the Robinson and Clare families to see if they make sense. Regards Genious
