  • But under what name?

I know when he died, 23 May 1986.

I know where he died, Blackpool.

I know how old he was, 75.

What I don't know is his name! I know what he was generally known as, Charles Cole aka Windy Blow, but that name is not his real one, Coles being conspicuous by their absence from the BMD register!

Anyone know how I can check who died in Blackpool on that date and aged 75?

Take your pick, there's 40 people born 1911 +/- 1 year deaths registered May 1986 Blackpool and Fylde district on Ancestry.

Of the 40 25 are male.

Do you have Ancestry sub? If so go to the Deaths and put in all the details that you have got and it will list everyone for that month and year.

From Jay's list there is only one Charles. He was aged 74 though.

You should check the following month too, in case there was a delay in registration.

Thanks for your help, but my current sub is with FMP, not Ancestry, and FMP requires a surname. I would greatly appreciate an Ancestry look-up. The only other info on him that I have that he said he was born in Westcliff-on-Sea, December 28, 1910.

As to published obits. 'The Stage' carried one in June 1986 but cost precludes me looking at it. So far have been unable to trace online local paper archives of the period.

Just a thought, but does anyone out there have access to the online archives of 'The Stage' who could look up Windy Blow's obit in June 1986?
