There's a Florence SheppErd of the right age in Paddington, with a younger brother Thomas in the same household and a Margaret of the right age to be Margaret Edwards.

NB if Dad was an asphalter, he could well be away from home, working on a road somewhere.

I think he married Margaret Edwards. There's a birth for a Grace Edwards in 1912 mmn Edwards in Paddington District.

              Then there's these:

              1911 census

              Thomas SHEPPERD 31
              Margrett SHEPPERD 25
              Florence 3
              Thomas 1

              living in Paddington District.

It looks like Sidney is in Brentford still in 1911, but I don't have the time to x ref against the possible family members: there are 30!

I think that Sidney married in 1931 in Battersea District to someone called Doris Harris :(

Possibly Sidney is going to prove tricky?

Do you know when he died?

                              What do you mean, possibly?

I just hope that Jammy is interested in the Sheppards, not the Lewises. The latter look like proving very expensive.

There's someone with a tree on Ancestry who has a Henry Sidney Lewis (that way round) marrying a Florence Sheppard. They say he was born 1905 in London, The tree also says his father was Arthur John Lewis. :(

I thought maybe they had a birth cert (possibly the wrong birth cert!) but not the marriage cert, but I can't see a birth for a Hnery Sidney Lewis around 1905. :(

Oh, this is probably the birth cert they have:

                                  Births Sep 1905
Lewis Henry Sydney Hendon 3a 272

So, presumably that has Arthur John Lewis as the father?

Might be worth contacting the tree owner though, in case they have some other info which is correct!!! lol

The Thomas Sheppard who we all found as the father of Florence was born in Sussex (from the 1911 census index).

                                      There's this WW1 death:

                                      Name: SHEPPARD, THOMAS EDWIN
                                      Initials: T E
                                      Nationality: United Kingdom
                                      Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry
                                      Unit Text: 5th Bn.
                                      Date of Death: 17/10/1915
                                      Service No: 18824
                                      Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
                                      Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 37 and 39.
                                      Memorial: YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL

and though the above doesn't say his age or where he came from, this does give a place of birth (from Ancestry):

                                      Name: Thomas Edwin Sheppard
                                      Birth Place: Hollington, Sussex
                                      Residence: Marylebone, Middx.
                                      Death Date: 17 Oct 1915
                                      Enlistment Location: Queeen's Park, Middx.
                                      Rank: Private
Regiment: Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry
                                      Battalion: 5th Battalion.
                                      Number: 18824
Type of Casualty: Killed in action

Though I have to admit, if he said Hollington for place of birth in 1911 then he spelled it differently to the above!

Needless to say, there's no such person (be he the father of your Florence, or not) on the 1901 census!!!!! lol (Erm, or the 1881 or 1891)

There is a Thomas E Shepherd in 1891 born Sussex in 1877. Not born Hollington, of course!
