    Hi Trevor,
Only the 1901 and 1911 censuses of Ireland have survived. The 1911 census is being put online in phases here National Archives: Census of Ireland 1911
There are a few Tyrone links in the Wiki: Tyrone - Family Tree Forum

Really bad news about the 1871 census, as it was probably the only way I was going to prove/disprove a child in the family.

I had been told that there was a Dervis Franklin born 1862
He was not on the 1881 census when they returned to England

        From a New Zeland relative:
Dervis Daniel was located by the relative, Margaret (now deceased) doing the research some years back in England. She has made the comment on her notes "Most of this information (the children of William and Ann (Marianne) Franklin) has come from census returns except for Dervis Daniel which is a birth certificate that I have. Most unusual name so we asked for the certificate to confirm the family
She did offer to give me a copy of the birth certificate at the time however, she has since deceased so I am unable to retrieve it.
I know that William was in England on 1861 census and 1881 census, so could he have been born and died in Ireland?

Looks like I will never answer that one
        EDIT:
Ignore last sentence, just found on BMD
FRANKLIN David Daniel 1861 sept Qtr Hendon 3a 78

Now found him on the 1891 and 1901 census up in Wolverhampton
this time he is using Dervis his first name

            So is born DAVID
Uses Davis on a marriage record
Then uses Dervis and names his son the same.

But still not found him on the 1881 census.
His wife was Mary Ann Shearman, she is on the 1881 with her family, her father was a Varnish maker, the same trade as David/Dervis/Davis on the 1891 and 1901 census.

Oh I wish they would keep their names the same!

Sad to say, generally speaking, there is only census available for Irish records from 1901 onwards.

However, there are the tithe applotment records, and there is a partial 1821 census for some counties that can be found, hopefully, by googling.

As well as the sources Joy mentioned there is also Griffiths Valuation, but I don't think any of these will cover the time period you're looking for.

PRONI has Will Calendars, the Ulster Covenant, and Freeholders Lists online here: http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the_archives.htm
