  • Finding my great grandfather's wife or wives

I am asking about my elusive great grandfather, Arthur Wilson. On my grandparents marriage certificate in 1919 he is listed as a traveller and my great aunt in 1939 a commercial traveller and by this time is now deceased. Owing to the commoness of his name, I have spent many fruitless hours today trying to pinpoint census dates where he might have appeared. I think at one point he could have been married to an Elizabeth Wilson but equally she could have been his sister.

This Arthur Wilson had Thomas, Alfred, Ruth (born around 1912 ish), Dorothy (who allegedly died of a cat scratch aged 6) plus 4 other unknown children. I seem to recall that I think it was Kiterunner found a commercial traveller with a wife but no Thomas living with, but I can't find the thread now.

As always thanking you advance for any pointers you can give me.

I'm just going to bed now, but didn't Ruth have a middle name? Was the death I found for her the right one?

It wasn't me who found the commercial traveller, but I can't remember who it was. These are your other threads about them:

I'm still planning to look up the electoral registers for London Road, Ordsall, to see whether any Wilsons are listed there but it will be after the school holidays, so probably in about a week's time. Fingers crossed I find some!

Merry, Ruth's name turned out to be Enid on her marriage cert, but the death you found was for a Ruth Elizabeth so it doesn't look likely to be the right one.
