  • Latin help, please

    I've just downloaded a Will from the 1720's and the probate is in Latin. I'm trusting TNA that the year is 1724 but can anyone tell me if there is any more to the date please?

    Thanks

    Sue

    It's a bit hard to read, but I think it's 30th December 1724.

      I read it as April 1720

      millesimo septingentesimo = 1700
      vicesimo = 20
      Quarto = April (literally the 4th month)

          The Will was written in 1723 so 1720 can't be right, but thanks for looking Judith!

            No, I think it says:

            tricesimo die (on the 30th day) mensis decembris (of the month of December) Anno Domini millesimo septingentesimo vicesimo quarto (in the year of Our Lord 1724).

              Oops the quarto was 4 as in 1724, not 4th as in April. Have to admit now that though I studied Latin for 4 years I got a resounding 9 (the lowest grade possible) in my O Level:o

                Don't worry, Judith - I thought it was the 13th day:o not the 30th.
