  • London Probate Office Look ups

I'm off to 1st Avenue House tomorrow morning and should have time for a few lookups. I'll check the thread at 8.30am - anything added after that will be too late:D

I'm hoping to head over to the LMA too so if anyone has any specific lookups they need doing I'll try and fit them in. ;)

    Hi Sue
Thanks for the kind offer. What exactly can you find at the Probate Office? Just wondered as I have a rellie who died in 1915 & would have been interested in the contents of his will but I am not sure if that would appear there?

    Thanks.

            Thanks.
            Joan -

1911 should be there. I've only been once before and there's loads of large tomes to look through - roughly one a year (I think) and the book gives the bare essentials of what's in the will. If you want a full copy it costs £5 (again not sure about price!) This link in the Wiki probably explains better than me! You're looking at National Probate Calendar 1858 - to present day. http://www.familytreeforum.com/wiki/...ls_and_Probate

Tom, Tillie Mint - received your pm's all OK;)

Have made a note of others so far. Will check back tomorrow as promised

              *waves to Sue*

              We must coordinate our outings!

No look-up required, just saying hallo and hope you have a lovely day. When is the next granddaughter due?

I'm going to North Kent tomorrow to see my daughter on her day off and my nephew who's on holiday and his wife and three boys (the first time I shall see the new arrival Edward).

On topic, Sue can give you the details from the probate calendar which gives the exectuor/exectutrix, details of the testator/testatrix and the amount left and usually details of where they lived. For £5 you get the whole will. It can take over an hour before you get it - especially if you order at lunchtime!

Ok thanks Sue I think I understand now.

Joseph Putman died 11 Jan 1915 in Oxfordshire aged 55 approx. (I meant 1915 not 1911 in my first post!)

                Thanks Sue

Sue, I've taken "Tomorrow" out of your thread title so people who haven't seen it yet don't get too excited, hope that's o.k. with you.
