  • dvd decoder? advice please

Hiya...a little help please...about my laptop ....I recently posted about a friend who borrowed it...well I`ve found out he let his children play on it and he got somebody to "wipe it clean " and then they downloaded a fake windows xp...........my brother has now sorted it out and downloaded GENUINE XP and all the microsoft office /music media player etc....the problem I have now is I cannot play any DVD`s....it keeps coming up....this dvd is not compatible, decoder required...so EVERY dvd decoder site I go to states you have to pay...the Windows DVD Decder is £14-99...if need be I will pay this for the kids sake....but just in case....can anyone reccommend a DVD Decoder site that is free please???..or do they all require a fee?...appreciate any info....regards....allan;)

Yep, I've used VLC for ages and it seems to play everything without having to download additional codecs. Some friend, garstonite!
Researching Nickless & Evans, Shropshire & Montgomeryshire. Also Ord and Coulson, Co. Durham
