It occurs to me, (and shout me down if this is irrelevant), but it says Gloucester and not Gloucestershire, and therefore is an area of Gloucester City in which case it won't show up on normal maps etc. Just going to check to see if I can find anything

I think that the last four letters are town.......... (in Gloucester there are some areas ending in town, but so far cannot find a match)

Yes Elaine. She was born 1828 in Little Dean which is East Dean/Forest of Dean Reg Dist.

Query is for 1861 Barton St Mary, part of Gloucester City.

I thought maybe looking on Google maps might help but cannot see anything suitable in the East Dean area.

Is everyone positive that the first letter is an H? Is it possible that it`s an ST? I`ve got some time on my hands so I`ll try and find something.

Sorry, looked on some villages sites, google maps, and wikopedias lists of gloucestershire villages, but nothing jumps out.

It might be worth looking in the surrounding counties. I have been caught out a time or two when trying to work out a village name only to discover that boundary changes meant I was looking in the wrong county!!
