  • Ancestry - Making Sure My Tree is Private?

    Redacted

  • #2
Go to home page. Your tree should be listed there.
Open tree. Click on OVERVIEW tab.
On right hand side, under the TOOLS heading, click on CHANGE TREE PRIVACY.
    Select PUBLIC or PRIVATE:

If you select PRIVATE there is also an option for it not to be found in Ancestry searches.
Do NOT include this tree in the search index (Note: Checking this box will make it so no one can find your tree in our search index.)

On the OVERVIEW page, right hand side at the very bottom, is the link for inviting people to view your tree.

Thank you Elaine. Dunnit. I just deleted the lot. I'll leave it on GR and I have it on Family Tree Maker 2009. I couldn't for the life of me find that on my own! Is that bad web design or am I just stupid? (Don't answer that!)

Penelope, you were commenting yesterday about the visitor messages.
You have an option to disable it if you wish.

Click on USER TOOLS on the blue navigation bar at top of screen and select USER CONTROL PANEL from drop down list.
Select EDIT OPTIONS (left hand side of screen).
Scroll down to the section headed VISITOR MESSAGING and deselect the box ENABLE VISITOR MESSAGING.

Aw thanks, Elaine. I will leave for now as at least I now understand what they are!
