I am looking for the marriage for John Bryon (born 1829 Prescot Lancs) to Ellen ? who was born 1830 West Derby lancs
I have found them both together on the census for 1871, 1881 and 1901. Cannot find them on the 1861 census and they should be as their eldest child was born in 1859 in Whiston Lancs.
I cannot find a John marrying an Ellen. Has anyone time to look for me please please.
I have to go and make a cuppa as I am all looked out!!!

On the 1851 Ellen gives place of birth as West Derby.

I wonder if this could be their marriage.

          Marriages Sep 1850
          Barron John
          Critchley John
          Ellis Hannah
          Jones Elizabeth
          Lemon Ellen
          Melville Matthew Robert
          Snoddon Sarah
          Wood James
          W. Derby 20 1018

I think you will need one of the childrenĀ“s birth certificates to confirm.

I've just looked at the original census to see if the names are transcription errors but the name looks like Barron what do you think?

I found the same 1861 census as Jules - the childrenĀ“s names of James and John seemed to match the 1881 census that I found.

I couldnĀ“t see the 1871 census - do you have a reference for that one? UPdate - ignore that - found it!

The names and places of birth between the 1871 Byron census and the 1861 Barron census seem to match and at the moment I cannot see any alternative! :o

Thanks Elaine, I agree that the family Barrons on the earlier census is the same as the Byrons on the later census. I am a bit puzzled as to why they changed their name to Byron from Barron as the name on the earlier census does read Barron. Sorry I did not explain myself properly thanks for all your help.

                      This isnt your marriage! :(
I have just seen on Lancs BMD that Ellen Lemon married James Wood.
                      John Barron married Hannah Ellis.

                      Back to the drawing board!

Thanks again Elaine I was just wondering what to do next and thinking I will search for one of the children birth details so I can send off for the cert to confirm mothers name. I still think the Barrons Barran are the same family but will know more once I start searching for the birth details.

I agree that they appear to be the same family - just cannot see a suitable marriage for John and Ellen. Hopefully a birth certificate will help.

Like you I still cannot find a suitable marriage and wondering which childs BC to send for I really did not think there would be so many to chose from I wish one of them had an unusual christian name that would help. I am doing this for my future son-in-laws mother and it is always harder when it is not your own family. She said she had been told she was related to Lord Byron but I have my doubts. I am off to bed thanks for your help once again.
