Can anyone help - I've come to a real brickwall???
I have a GGG Grandmother Georgetta Virginia Musson born 1854 North America married William Munks Jun 1871 (7a 861) and a Clarke Harvey Jun 1878 (7a 857) with a Mother called Elizabeth but nothing else. Her daughter Harriet Ann Munks is down on the 1881 census as Step-daughter to Clarke Harvey aged 4 born in N.Witham Lincoln
Questions? - How do I research America?
It might be a guess but with a middle name of Virginia would she have been born there?? Any help greatly appreciated.;)

Working from the 1871 census record for Georgetta, would this be the second marriage of her mother?

    Marriages Jun 1859
    Chamberlain John Grantham 7a 859
    Musson Elizabeth Grantham 7a 859

This cert would tell you Elizabeth's maiden name and her father's details.

So, you can get Georgetta's mothers history from the above marriage cert and you can find out Georgetta's father's name from Her marriage cert. I expect Mr Musson and Elizabeth X married here before they went to The States.

You asked if it's likely Georgetta was born in Virginia - she may have been, but her sister, who is with the family on the 1861 census, says this of her birth place:

Mary P. MUSSON Serv U Female 25 Occ Cook, b Baltimore, North America

        (that's from the 1881 census)

          Mary married Arthur Chambers:

          Marriages Sep 1881
          Chambers Arthur Grantham 7a 697
GRICE Mary Money Grantham 7a 697
MUSSON Mary Poynton Grantham 7a 697
          SUTTON Richard Grantham 7a 697

They are together in 1891 and she gives her place of birth as Baltimore again.
