  • 1911 census........

I know its not all yet on site but does anyone know, if certain parts of what is now known as greater Manchester, ie,Salford is on there.

I was able to find my maternal grandparents in Collyhurst but cant find my paternal grandmother, or any other family from this area?

Jen, I think it should be on there, yes. Do you want to post up the details of who you're looking for in case one of us can find them?

It will be rather expensive wont it Kate?

But if no one minds I was hoping to find my grandmother and one of her sons in particular, for whom I have little to no info.

      Grandma..........Elizabeth Brandon Born 1863
Should be residing Salford. I know Gran re-married 9 years after grandads death in 1914 so in 1911 she was still a Brandon. It may be possible she could have gone to live in the Gorton area......as this is where her death was registered.

      And uncle............

Samuel Brandon born Salford in about 1887. Probably married by then and maybe still somewhere within the Manchester area.

Jen, I wasn't suggesting anyone would use credits to search! We'll only do the free search.

Jen, are you sure about those details? Only I can't see a Samuel Brandon birth listed on the GRO index or Lancashire BMD for that place and date?

Sorry, Jen, I'm struggling to find them - can you give us the details from any other census you have them on, please?

Sorry Kate, my mistake regarding Samuel.
He was born 17/4/1894 and didnt marry until 1920.

                  On 1881 RG11/4006/37 P13, they were at 56 Nelson street Manchester/Salford

And in 1901 at 4 Preston street.

                  Hope this helps.

This looks like some of them in 1911, living in Manchester:
                    Maria Brandon 21
                    Ada Brandon 18
                    Samuel Brandon 16
                    Charlotte Brandon 15
                    May Brandon 13
                    William Brandon 9
                    Arthur Brandon 7
                    Joseph Brandon 6

Not worked out where Elizabeth / Lily is yet, though!

Is it possible she is living as Lilly Grimshaw (and fibbed a bit about about her age - 40)

Could this be her? This couple are in the same household as the above Brandons, apparently:
                        Walter Grimshaw 37
                        Lilly Grimshaw 40

I can imagine she might knock a few years off her age as Walter was younger than her?

                        (snap, Jackie!)

Oh yes, I see on FreeBMD that 1914 marriage you mentioned was to Walter Grimshaw!

Thanks Kate, I suppose anythings possible Night Owl.

I know she married Walter Grimshaw in 1914, 9 yrs after the death of her husband Samuel Brandon, so they could have been co habiting together, perhaps in Gorton, long before the eventual marriage.

I think most of the boys at least (my dad Joe being the youngest), were mainly left to fend for themselves at some point.

Sorry, if you want the full address you would have to use credits to look at the transcription or image. If you search for Samuel Brandon age 16 living Manchester then you will find the right entry.
