I have an ancestor whose place of birth varies on the censuses between Thimbleby and Kirkstead. Her Grandmother was also born in Kirkstead. Now, I know where Thimbleby is cos I've got a map ;) but it's a modern map and Kirkstead doesn't feature. What I was wanting to know is, is/was Kirkstead a small hamlet or similar close to Thimbleby?

    Thanks
    Jeanette

    Mmmm

There is "Kirkstead Bridge" which crosses the river Witham just east of Woodhall Spa (road number is B1191), maybe 4 miles to Thimbleby.

Other villages/hamlets along the route, Langton, Old Woodhall, Martin and Stixwould.
