    Hi

Alice Threlfall b1802 Gt Budworth. I have her up to and including the 1861, where she says born Antrobus, Cheshire and living in Lancashire (transcribed Little Bolton, parish St George.) But I think I have the wrong transcription for the actual census. Could someone be kind enough to check this out for me? RG9 2822 f203 or 103, difficult to read, p3.

I am also trying to find out if she is on the 71, as I want to find a death date and order the certificate.

    Many thanks for any help.

    regards,

    treesa

That's fantastic, on the actual census is Alice on the 13th line down, as that's what I have. George Appleton is at the top. If not, I have the wrong census for the transcription!

Alice is living at 50 Back Lane in the household of Thomas Lee, Horse Proprietor as a House Servant.

I said I'd got the wrong census with the transcription! Then who have I got?? Anyway, just to check, for this Alice you have found, I take it the actual census states born Antrobus widow, living in Lancs? I will go along with the transcription page I have.

                  Yes thats right, widow, Lancs.

There are three possibles in the 1871

                  1) b 1801 Hambleton
                  2)b 1809 Inskip
                  3)b 1794 Cuerdon

My Lancs geography is zip so don't know:o if any of these are likely

                  Forget the 1809 one - she's unmarried!

Yes that's her, thank you very much. The other census looks like RG10 3694, so I don't know if this is for 61 or another census. I did this a long time ago now.

What does it say for the 1801 Hambleton one, is she a widow?

It's hard to say! I think so, the enumerator has put Unm for unmarrieds and Wdr for widowers and Alice has this strange squiggle that could be a W or a U! She's a grocer so I wonder if that rules her out?

Where's Elaine when you need her??

I have the census RG10 3694, which I am thinking is for 1871, for Barnton. My copy is very poor, but looks like Alice age 69 born Antrobus. no 49 in top right corner, along with p 27. I have tried ancestry, but of course can't look to check as not subscribed. It could be 71 or even 51?

Thanks very much. I made a cup of tea myself!!

Do you think this could be her despite the year difference? I have just found a death for 1878, but not sure if correct. This is the census I have, silly me mixed them up....

Thanks for helping me solve this particular mystery. I am much more organised now!

I would say the 1871 census is her, even though there is an age discrepancy.
It's an unusual name and I cannot see any other Alice Threlfal in other censuses that has the same place of birth.

Thanks very much for all your help. I think this is 'solved' and I much appreciate your time and help. I haven't found her on the 81 and don't think she would have remarried so presume the death registration is the correct one.

Thanks again for your help and second opinions. Brilliant!

                                    regards,
