  • WW1 Service Records - updated to surname "N"

With all the excitement of the LMA records appearing on Ancestry, I have just noticed that the WW1 Army Service Records have been updated as well.

Apologies if this is old news - I´ve only just noticed it.

No, sadly the majority of the WWI service records were destroyed during a WWII air raid. It is just luck if you can find one that you're looking for.

Two thoughts - have you looked in the "pension" collection? these were a sample of service records that were being used at the Ministry of Pensions at the time. They do include a few records of men who died in service.

Secondly, if you know his service number, it's worth trying a search on that alone. As we must all know , mistranscription can make it hard to find people by name. I've found a couple that eluded me by searching on the number alone.

thanks Blackberry (nice to meet you btw :D). I don't think I looked at the pension records for obvious reasons. Also will have a go at searching with service number alone.

                  Thanks for the tips
