  • Glasgow: 1970's pictoral history of the Gorbals.

    The link is in the wiki but worth adding here to, around 50 b&w images of the area before major redevelopment, old church buildings, shops, road and streetscenes, tenement blocks etc, it's all there in a stunning set of images posted by the photographer. They were going to be binned but with a bit of persuasion they might end up gifted to the Mitchell library.

    Thanks for putting the link up, apart from the pure historical interest, I love old photos...

      There is also a discussion thread that runs in tandem with the photo thread, the site admin have deliberately split the image and chat threads and it works quite well.

      Another section with a nice collection

      urbanglasgow.co.uk :: Glasgow Buildings

      Another sub forum on the site has many recent images, different threads
      about districts, bridges, churches, stations etc,

      as the section header says If you like wandering about on the wild side in Glasgow where the tourism stops and the dumped tyres begin then share your adventures here

          These are just magnificent, please, please persuade the owner to gift them to a public collection. Now if he just had some from other districts that included Tennant Street near the Cowcaddens...

            I would keep popping back and checking through other bits of the site too, i'm finding new things all the time on there and can easily go for a quick look only to find i have spent two hours on there.

            Failing that it could well be worth registering (it's free) and asking on the "past and present" discussion thread, just tell them Glen TK sent you :D
            I daren't wear the tinsel in amongst a pile of Glaswegians so i'm just Glen TK there
