  • I received 3 death certs today

My Great x 2 Grandparents Platt died aged 22 and 33 respectively within 8 years of each other. They both died of Plithesis. I looked this up and it is a form of TB.

On the death cert of my Great x 2 Grandmother who died aged 22 her aunt was the informant of her death. Her aunts name was Elizabeth Smith. Oh boy not more of them. I already have one family of Smith's. Now if she was an aunt that means she married a chap with the surname of the 2 x Great Grandmother at birth? Is this correct?

    Many Thanks

I would say she is the sister of your ancestor's mother or father (and if neither of them was a Smith then presumably Smith is a married surname). However, if one of them was a Smith then she could be a non-blood relative and married to a male sibling of one of the parents. Or she might be a great aunt! lol Or....or......any other person who thought her relationship was aunt! (I'll shut up now!)

Phthisis was a very common form of death. As for the aunt, she may have married a Mr Smith or she may have married someone else who died and then married a Mr Smith!

At least she is not directly related hey. I have not gone sideways yet on any of my surnames. Which reminds me to create a new thread.
