  • Granddad's service records

Got mt granddad's service records today and only had to wait about a month for them

Turns out he was a bit of a naughty boy and deserted more than once in the 1920's and 30's as well as disobeying orders!! Although im quite glad he did he did because theres not a lot else in there really! a lot of bits of paper but not many with lots of info on.

It doesnt include his RAF records so may have to look for that, but does seem to give his service number which may help. We are a bit confused as to why he said in 1923 he was 20 when he was born in 1901, but this may have been due to a miscalculation. Although on one piece of paper you can faintly see what looks like 28.10.02 on the DOB with his actual DOB of 26.10.01 circled. Anyone know why you would say you were younger than you were?

Anyway im a very happy bunny with my find

Shocking! I hav found a great-uncle who was disciplined for drunkeness and being late on parade. Tsk!

He may not have said he was 20, but the person writing it down may have made a mistake as to what he said, or what he wrote. Not sure why he would want to appear younger - maybe it was to do with entitlement to pension or something.
