Apparently the "old " books for all East Yorkshire registration offices have been centralised at county HQ at Beverley, which is where one now makes requests for certs. (Not sure if this applies to Hull.)
I rang the Pocklington office on Wednesday to inquire about ordering from there and was redirected to Beverley. I ordered 2 over the phone & paid by debit card - they arrived today. That was just 3 days. One is scanned, the other is typed.
The staff at Beverley were very helpful and efficient. I shall definitely be using them again for E Yorks events.
