  • Nantwich Union Workhouse records?

    Hello folks,

I've had an email back from the archivist at Cheshire Record Office saying they don't have admission/discharge or creed registers for the period late 1840's to early 1850's

Anybody any idea where they might be?

Also what's a creed register please?

    Thanks

Sounds as if they don't exist then, as I would have expected them to say where they are if they don't have them.

Creed registers are linked to the admission registers and give the religion of every person entering the workhouse, often with other information (baptism, marriage, burial).

I looked on TNA and Cheshire Records Office have later registers for Nantwich Workhouse, but against the earlier admission registers it says

        "See LGA"

I haven't the faintest idea what that means, sorry!

            Thanks Nell,

I'll try both the central library and the council offices.
