  • Where to go from here?

When you have traced your family from a county to another county (E.G Staffordshire to Lancashire, Liverpool) and then it states that the father of the ancestor that was born in Liverpool wasnt born in the same county. What would you do next?

The info was taken from the 1841 so it dosent mention actual birthplaces.
The father was then deceased by the next census as Christiana is on her own I believe.

I'm not very good at this Danny, so I'm sure somebody may have other suggestions but you could try to find the baptism of your ancestor and it just might give the fathers birthplace ... some of them do. ..... or the marriage of your ancestor's parents in the parish registers.

      Hiya Jean

I have the baptism of my ancestor born in Liverpool and it dosent state the fathers birthplace.
As you say the marriage may shed some light on it for me If I can find it that is.

It might be easier to help if you post up the details you have, because it is probably going to depend on how common or rare the names are.

The details are these - William John Cox was baptised 17th February in St Peters church Liverpool.
His mother Christiana (On census down as Christian) was born in Middlesex, Tottenham.
His father William Cox was born c1809 in another county according the 1841 census and by the 1851 census he was deceased as Christiana was down as a widow.

The name William Cox is going to be pretty hard to trace so I would think you would have to start with William and Christiana's marriage. Luckily the name Christiana was rather less common than William. Did they have other children apart from William John? You could also look for William's death registration.

I think I may now know Christiana's maiden name as on the 1871 census she is living with her unmarried sister and her name is Elizabeth Harriott.
Also Christiana's son William John Cox named one of his kids Christiana Harriott Cox.
                  What do you think?

There is an Edward Thomas Cox on the IGI baptised 19 Jun 1831 St George the Martyr, Southwark, Surrey, parents William and Christiana. Do you know whether he is one of yours?

Yes Kite he is one of mine but I didnt know where he was born or his middle name.

So it looks like the marriage took place in London somewhere.

Atleast its give me some where to go on.

                        Thankyou
