I assume your on Vista ??? I am always having problems with backups on mine too,it asks for a blank disc I put one in and it repeatedly asks for one, I managed to back up to my portable drive last week but even that was a problem.
I much prefer XP to Vista.

Ooh, can you do that Val. I much prefer XP. Do you do it yourself, or do you have to get an expert in to do it?

Hmm........didn't know that was possible Val......whats the procedure?

But if they're not continuing with XP........won't we be stuck with Vista?

There are only 3 legal ways to 'downgrade' from Vista to XP:-

                  1. If you bought a PC with an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) copy of Vista Business or Vista Ultimate. (However I presume most of you will have either Home Basic or Home Premium which you cannot downgrade)

                  2. If you are volume license user (like large companies or schools)

                  3. Buy a copy of XP (or at least have a full, not OEM, licence from an old machine that XP has been removed from)

Whichever way it is not like doing a reverse of upgrading. You will have to reformat and install XP from scratch.

Do you have service pack 1 on your vista? if no then download it and install it, see if this fix's your problem.
Its a big download but if you don't have it your need it, heres the link.

Backing up to the hard drive Dave.

Brian down loaded service pack 1 earlier this week, took about 2 hrs.
was having the backup problems prior to this, and the down load didn't help. In fact, it made my laptop a whole lot slower, so I off loaded it again. May have to consider re load though if its vital..........I do have a driver which is unstable.........ever since I bought laptop 2 yrs ago. early days of Vista. Am unsure which patch if any, to use.
