I have a possible ancestor, Edward Ede, born in Austria about 1821. I've tried the IGI but cannot find him on that. I can't seem to find a website for Austrian bmds. Does anybody know of one?

You could look through the links etc on here to see if any of them are any help:

      Hi Irene,

I've just done a google search (in German) and it looks as if the records are kept regionally and there doesn't seem to be much online. I think that in order to trace him you're going to need to know which district or even parish he was born in. Do you have a more specific location than just Austria? Do you have any other information about him at all?

Thank you both for your help. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything on Cyndi's list and I have no further information about Edward. I found him on the 1851 census but his birth place was just given as 'Austria'. Will have to try and find some more about him and try again.
