hi all i have a website about canal boatmen, they are my husbands family, if i could ask for any photo's past and present so that i can put them on my website i would be very grateful
hi elaine its up but still adding to it, i have to add more families then source info and more photographs, i am also hoping other canal boat families will want to add theirs even if they are not related it may help someone
I asked as I wondered if it was the site I had been in contact with and have sent your hubby some stuff!
My cousin has resent some Blisworth photo's of the 200 yr celebrations so once I sort them out, will email them over. Some of my photo's were corrupted when the computer went bonkers and we had to start from scratch again

thank you julie, i think because the canal boatmen and women had such a hard time i would let everyone see, it is a dying thing and i wanted to let everyone see, just in case they have families that were on the canals, i am also asking for others even if not related to list their families and maybe it will connect them with others too.

what an interesting site.Hanwell the name on the boat is where I went to high school and as a girl I used to walk along "the cut" from Southall to Hayes always hoped a barge would come along, loved the clydesdales.

I know its nothing like the life they used to lead, but holidays on the canals have been our family favourites for about 35 years. My Dad used to get the monthly magazine called Waterways World.
I wondered if you had had any contact with them? - they have some very knowlegable canal history writers for the magazine who might have some extra details for you. Each month there is the story of old canal boats or families. Alternatively they might like you to write an article!!!
My ex was born on the boats in the 1940's and worked them with her folks til the mid 60's, mostly on the Grand Union. She is related to Arthur and Rose Bray.
Her brother brought the last load into Wellingboro mill and there are pics of him and the family on the cover of women and children of the cut in BW colours. There are several books with images of kids have her sister shown, sometimes named sometimes just noted as an unknown child.
Not sure if the link will work but a book called "Epilogue" by Robert J Wilson is one of a series he wrote with several of the family pictured.

My OH's G G grandfather was a boatman. In 1881 Aaron Booth is recorded with his wife Ann and son Aaron in Sculcoates, Hull with his Keel the 'Industry'.
I don't suppose you have any photos of his boat or information about it. I know it is a long shot, but nothing ventured nothing gained!!
